Gifts for the Future

Gifts for the Future

Gifts for the Future is a participatory public art work that gives away £1000 in exchange for future positive actions that cost nothing. First presented at Sneinton Market in Nottingham – it was aimed towards a passing public who might happen upon the event in the course of their ordinary activity.

100 members of the public participate directly in the work. Through conversations with the artist and performers each participant makes a commitment to carry out a future positive action – an action that is without monetary cost. With their promise made, each receives £10 to do with as they wish. Gifts for the Future untangles the £10 gifts from transactional monetary exchange. It generates discussions that question what we value, the value we place on time and the economy of the gift. And it accumulates one hundred future positive actions to be activated beyond the timeframe of the event: Gifts for the Future
